Counter-Jihad Movement Labeled as "Extremist Threat"

(Clarion Post)

Standing against Islamist groups with Muslim Brotherhood origins and believing the content of the Brotherhood’s own documents and speeches apparently makes qualifies you as an “Islamophobe.”

The International Centre for the Study of Radicalisation and Political Violence (ICSR) has published a report that brands “Europe’s Counter-Jihad Movement” as a threat. The document, much like the studies of the so-called “Islamophobia Network” in America, treats valid concerns about Islamists as evidence of extremism.

According to the Gates of Vienna blog, the ICSR is affiliated with “the Swedish Ministry of Defence, the current U.S. secretary of defense, several American universities, Saudi sheikhs and a think tank in Jordan.” It is also affiliated with the Interdisciplinary Center Herzilya in Israel and Georgetown University, home of the Saudi-funded Center for Muslim-Christian Understanding. Its founding director is John Esposito, one of the top allies of the U.S. Muslim Brotherhood network.

The executive summary of the report says the “European Counter-Jihad Movement” is a “form of far-right extremism in its portrayal of Muslims as a threat to European culture, an ‘enemy within,’ and in its proposed, highly illiberal responses to this perceived responses to this perceived threat.”

Rather than focusing on specific groups or individuals, the entire anti-Islamist movement is portrayed as extreme. As evidence of its extremism, the report points to the alleged influence of Robert Spencer and Pamela Geller, two activists based in the U.S. Yet, neither of them advocate violence, extremism or broad-brush treatment of all Muslims.

One of the features of being a “far-right extremist” is being concerned about “the stealthy implementation of Islamic Sharia”—but that’s exactly the campaign described in the 1982 Muslim Brotherhood plan called "The Project," as well as the 1991 U.S. Muslim Brotherhood Explanatory Memorandum. In fact, Islamists describe their phased, incremental strategy as "gradualism."

The report warns of the “cultural nationalism” of the anti-Islamist movement, but it is the 1991 U.S. Muslim Brotherhood memo that describes its campaign as a “civilization jihad.” It’s an ideological and cultural clash and there’s nothing wrong with pointing that out.

Amazingly, page 56 of the study undercuts its own attack on the “European Counter-Jihad Movement” by referencing a study that found that “Muslim Brotherhood-linked groups in Europe and the United States have sought to take control of Western Islam in order to suit their own political goals, while also attempting to influence government policy in their host countries.”

It also says a feature of “far-right extremism” is concern about taqiyya, an Islamic doctrine of deception. The ICSR says that this is a Shiite doctrine but the “extremists” apply it to Sunnis. Yet, an authoritative Sunni book on Sharia law titled Reliance of the Traveler, explicitly states “it is permissible to lie if attaining the goal is permissible…and obligatory to lie if the goal is obligatory.”

The book was endorsed by Al-Azhar University, the highest Sunni school of learning, and the International Institute of Islamic Thought, a front for the Sunni U.S. Muslim Brotherhood. In 1993, the FBI wiretapped a secret Brotherhood/Hamas meeting in Philadelphia where Shukri Abu Baker, the Sunni head of the Holy Land Foundation, was recorded repeatedly stating that “war is deception.”

Omar Ahmad, a Sunni founder of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), was present and similarly endorsed deception. In a 2007 court filing  in the case of convicted terrorist Sabri Bekhala, federal prosecutors state: “From its founding by Muslim Brotherhood leaders, CAIR conspired with other affiliates of the Muslim Brotherhood to support terrorists…the conspirators agreed to use deception to conceal from the American public their connections to terrorists.”

The study concludes, “Rejecting the existence of a non-extremist majority of Muslims comes from a bigoted, xenophobic and irrational position…”

The major players in the “counter-jihad movement” don’t dispute that the majority of Muslims in the West are moderate. And arguing that large numbers of Muslims, a majority in some areas of the world, have extremist beliefs is not “bigoted, xenophobic and irrational.” After all, the Islamists won the elections in Egypt. In addition, a 2010 Pew poll found that 84 percent of Egyptians support executing apostates. A 2008 poll found that one-third of British-Muslim university students believe in establishing a worldwide caliphate based on Sharia law. Pointing this out shouldn’t qualify you as an extremist.

On a broader level, this report contributes to the attempts of Islamists and their non-Muslim political allies to characterize any concern about “civilization jihad” as extremist and without foundation. In the U.S., two left-wing reports tried to tarnish anti-Islamists as “Islamophobes.” They dismissed criticisms of the Muslim Brotherhood legacy groups who now regularly use the reports to cast their opponents as bigots.

Abdur-Rahman Muhammad, a former Islamist imam, says he was at an International Institute of Islamic Thought meeting where they decided to begin using the term “Islamophobia” to “beat up their critics.” CAIR, labeled a U.S. Muslim Brotherhood entity by the U.S. government, uses the tactic constantly.

CAIR and its Islamist allies even use the “Islamophobia” card on devout Muslims. When one of their Muslim opponents, Dr. Zuhdi Jasser, was appointed to a government position, they attacked him as a “sock puppet for Islam haters and an enabler of Islamophobia.”

Tellingly, the CAIR spokesman making the accusation, Ibrahim Hooper, previously worked for the pro-Hamas Islamic Association for Palestine, a group identified as a front in the Brotherhood’s own files. In 1993, he said,  “I wouldn’t want to create the impression that I wouldn’t like the government of the United States to be Islamic sometime in the future.”

Standing against Islamist groups with Muslim Brotherhood origins and believing the content of the Brotherhood’s own documents and speeches does not qualify you as an “Islamophobe.”

After death verdict, Mirza Himayat Baig faints in court

(IE)

Shortly after a sessions court passed the death sentence on
Mirza Himayat Baig, he fainted on the premises of Shivajinagar court.Baig, who was pronounced guilty on Monday, was being escorted by cops to the custody room after the sentencing on Thursday evening, when he sagged and fainted.

The police quickly arranged for water for Baig, after which he somewhat regained his composure and walked groggily to the custody room along with the escorts, eyewitnesses said. When Baig, in a white shirt with thin black stripes and black trousers, was brought out of the main old building of Shivajinagar court around 5.15 pm, a large number of people gathered around him and some reporters tried to click his pictures but the Anti Terrorism Squad personnel prevented them.

Throughout the day, Baig had looked nervous. In courtroom in the morning, when he was asked for his say on the sentence, Baig broke down and read out a plea from a handwritten note he had brought with him.

Court turns fortress

The city police had turned Shivajinagar court into a fortress with heavy bandobast for the sentencing of Mirza Himayat Baig in the German Bakery blast case.

A deputy commissioner of police, an assistant commissioner of police, 10 police inspectors, 17 PSIs and 200 constables (including 40 women) stood guard on the sprawling court premises. In addition to this, Crime Branch personnel and the Court Police also manned the entry and exit gates. A Rapid Action Force unit and a State Reserve Police Force were kept on standby.

Those responsible will ‘feel full weight of justice’-Obama

(TWT)

President Obama denounced the explosions at the finish line of the Boston Marathon and vowed to find out who is responsible and bring them to justice.
“We still do not know who did this and why,” he said in a prime-time statement from the White House Brady Press Briefing Room on Monday evening. “But make no mistake, we will get to the bottom of this. We will find out who did this; we’ll find out why they did this.”
SEE RELATED: Obama pledges support to Boston in wake of explosions
Any individuals or groups responsible for the “senseless” bombing, will “feel the full weight of justice,” he added.
Mr. Obama did not say whether the two explosions that abruptly ended the marathon and killed at least two people are terrorism-related, but Washington, D.C., and New York City were on high alert in the wake of the dual deadly bombs.
Security outside the White House was stepped up.
Secret Service personnel pushed members of the public across the street from the White House into Lafayette Park, and shut down Pennsylvania Avenue during the peak of spring tourism season.
Earlier Monday a White House official said FBI Director Robert S. Mueller III and Department of Homeland Security Secretary Janet A. Napolitano briefed Mr. Obama on the investigation and response to the explosions, including ongoing coordination between federal agencies and state and local officials.
Mr. Obama directed his administration to provide “the full resources” of the federal government to aid in the investigation and response.

“The American people will say a prayer for Boston tonight,” he said.
Earlier Monday, Vice President Joseph R. Biden also offered prayers, acknowledging the explosions during a conference call with reporters on gun control. “Our prayers are with those people in Boston who have suffered injuries. I don’t know how many there are,” he said.
Nearly 500,000 tourists were in Boston for the annual marathon.
The Senate observed a moment of silence for the victims just before an evening vote, and Speaker John A. Boehner was scheduled to lead a moment of silence during a scheduled House vote later Monday.
“Words cannot begin to express our sorrow for the families who are grieving so suddenly right now,” Mr. Boehner, Ohio Republican, said in a statement that also thanked law enforcement, other professionals and “good Samaritans” who prevented further loss of life.
“This is a terrible day for all Americans, but we will carry on in the American spirit, and come together with grace and strength,” he said.

Twin bombings at Boston marathon kill three, more than 100 injured

(ZeeNews)

Washington/Boston: At least three people were killed and at least 141 others were injured as two powerful explosions rocked the Boston Marathon finish line in a potential terrorist attack Monday afternoon.

When the smoke cleared after the blasts in Boston's Back Bay section, dozens of victims lay in the street, some unconscious, some grievously injured, including some whose limbs had been torn off by the blast, Boston Globe reported.

The dead included an 8-year-old boy, the newspaper said citing two law enforcement sources. Boston Children's Hospital reported that those treated there included a 9-year-old girl, a 7-year-old boy, a 12-year-old, and a 2-year-old.

Chaos erupted as near-simultaneous blasts struck about 90 metres apart, the first on Boylston Street near the photo bridge that marks the finish line, CTV News said. The explosion knocked some spectators and runners off their feet.

Paramedics and National Guard members who were working the race rushed to tear down fencing that cordoned off the spectator area from the course in order to reach and treat the injured.

The blasts threw people to the ground. Boston Police Commissioner Ed Davis said Monday night that the death toll had risen to three. Scores were injured at the scene.

Hospitals reported at least 141 people are being treated, with at least 17 of them in critical condition and 25 in serious condition, CNN said. At least eight of the patients are children.

Investigators warned police to be on the lookout for a "darker-skinned or black male" with a possible foreign accent in connection with the attack, the channel said citing a law enforcement advisory obtained by it.

The man was seen with a black backpack and sweatshirt and was trying to get into a restricted area about five minutes before the first explosion, the lookout notice states.

Also, a Saudi national with a leg wound was under guard at a Boston hospital in connection with the bombings, but investigators cannot say he is involved at this time and he is not in custody, a law enforcement official said Monday evening, it said.

Authorities in Boston found at least one other explosive device that they were dismantling, Davis said.

In a television address President Barack Obama pledged the full resources of the federal government in helping Boston and in investigating the bombings and said those responsible would feel the "full weight of justice."

"The American people will say a prayer for Boston tonight," he said. The president cautioned that authorities were still investigating and that people should not jump to any conclusions before all of the facts are learned.

"But make no mistake," Obama said. "We will get to the bottom of this and we will find out who did this. We'll find out why they did this and we will hold them accountable."

The blast came on Patriots Day, Obama noted, which is a state holiday in Massachusetts that celebrates the beginning of the American Revolution. Obama stopped short of calling the incident an act of terrorism. Federal authorities are classifying the bombings as a terrorist attack, CNN reported citing a federal law enforcement official.

But it's not clear whether the origin was domestic or foreign, the official said.

A federal law enforcement official told CNN that both bombs were small, and initial tests showed no C-4 or other high-grade explosive material, suggesting that the packages used in the attack were crude explosive devices.

School apologizes for 'Nazi' writing assignment

(TimesUnion)

Albany
Think like a Nazi, the assignment required students. Argue why Jews are evil.
Students in some Albany High School English classes were asked this week as part of a persuasive writing assignment to make an abhorrent argument: "You must argue that Jews are evil, and use solid rationale from government propaganda to convince me of your loyalty to the Third Reich!"
Students were asked to watch and read Nazi propaganda, then pretend their teacher was a Nazi government official who needed to be convinced of their loyalty. In five paragraphs, they were required to prove that Jews were the source of Germany's problems.
The exercise was intended to challenge students to formulate a persuasive argument and was given to three classes, Albany Superintendent Marguerite Vanden Wyngaard said. She said the assignment should have been worded differently.
"I would apologize to our families," she said. "I don't believe there was malice or intent to cause any insensitivities to our families of Jewish faith."
One-third of the students refused to complete the assignment, she said.
Vanden Wyngaard said the exercise reflects the type of writing expected of students under the new Common Core curriculum, the tough new academic standards that require more sophisticated writing. Such assignments attempt to connect English with history and social studies.

She said she understood the academic intent of the assignment — to make an argument based only on limited information at hand. Still, she acknowledged that it was worded in a very offensive manner. She did not identify the English teacher or discuss whether the educator faced any discipline.
Students were asked to make a rhetorical argument, drawing on previous lessons in crafting an opinion.
To help with their writing, they were required to incorporate the elements of an argument identified by Aristotle, the ancient Greek philosopher. Students had to look up the definitions of "Logos" (persuasion by reasoning), "Pathos" (persuasion by emotional appeal) and "Ethos" (persuasion by the author's character) and choose one of those argument styles before writing.
Other ill-considered teacher assignments have made national news this year.
In February, a Manhattan teacher caused an uproar after fourth-graders were given a math problem based on how many daily whippings a slave received.
In January, Georgia educators attempted to teach division to elementary school students by asking how many beatings per day former slave and abolitionist leader Frederick Douglass received.

Wikileaks-Rajiv Gandhi was 'middleman' for Swedish jet deal: US cable

(HT)

Former prime minister Rajiv Gandhi may have been a middleman for an arms deal in the 1970s, according to diplomatic cables published Monday.

The Hindu newspaper, accessing new information compiled by WikiLeaks, cites confidential US embassy cables stating that Gandhi was employed by Swedish group Saab-Scandia to help sell its Viggen fighter jet.

Gandhi, who was then outside politics and working as a commercial pilot, was the "main negotiator" for Saab-Scandia and was paid because of his access to his mother Indira Gandhi who was prime minister at the time, the cables say. 1975 New Delhi cable
They cite information given by Swedish embassy officials but also state that US officials were unable to confirm or deny the information.

"We would have thought a transport pilot is not the best expert to rely upon in evaluating a fighter plane, but then we are speaking of a transport pilot who has another and perhaps more relevant qualification," a US diplomat was quoted as noting wryly in one of the cables.

Rajiv Gandhi was assassinated in 1991. After entering politics reluctantly, Rajiv was later tarnished by a scandal involving Swedish gun manufacturer Bofors, which was accused of paying bribes to middlemen including an Italian businessman close to the Gandhis.

The Congress party lost elections in 1989, a defeat partly attributed to the Bofors scandal.

Saab-Scandia ultimately lost in its bid to sell its Viggen jets to India. British-made Jaguar planes were selected for the tender.

Wikileaks report on Rajiv Gandhi all lies: Congress
The Congress party immediately on Monday dismissed the Wikileaks report and questioned the credibility and added that the party doesn't give importance to the allegations. 1975 Paris Cable

Congress leader Janardan Dwivedi dismissed the story as baseless saying that there is no ground for it.

Opposition reacts:
Come clean on WikiLeaks cables on Rajiv: BJP to Congress
As the Wikileaks reports about Rajiv Gandhi being a middleman for a Swedish company looking to sell fighter jets to India in the 1970s emerged, there was political uproar in the country.

The Congress should "come clean" on the "WikiLeaks revelations", the BJP said on Monday.

"The WikiLeaks revelations are serious. This is absolutely shocking revelation, let us not forget that the revelations are making two specific charges, about two of their late prime ministers Indiraji and Rajivji," BJP spokesperson Prakash Javadekar said.

"They are connected to the first family of Congress. All defence deals have some relation with the Congress' first family. They should come clean on this, all the documents should be made public. We want the government, Congress and the family to come clean on it," Javadekar told a news channel. 1976 New Delhi Cable

Congress replied by stating that the BJP should think of where it was taking politics of the country, after the opposition party asked it to come clean on reported WikiLeaks disclosures.

"We should think where we are taking politics," Congress general secretary Janardhan Dwivedi said, referring to the BJP's comments following the US diplomatic cables from the Henry Kissinger era obtained by WikiLeaks and reported by The Hindu on Monday.

The Congress leader said there appeared truth in apprehensions that an attempt was being made to create an atmosphere of suspicion. He said the Congress was an organisation that was over 125 years old and was dedicated to values.

Dwivedi also hit out at the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance  about socialist leader George Fernandes being prepared to accept money from US central intelligence agency (CIA). 1976 New Delhi Cable

If it was assumed that there was some truth in reports of cable information, was it also true that information pertaining to Fernandes was true, he asked.

Dwivedi said Fernandes was not well and he did not want to make an allegation against him.

"But is it true he got money from CIA," he asked. Fernandes was a minister in NDA government.

Dwivedi said if the story was stretched, "were the BJP leaders also involved."

BJP leader Balbir Punj urged the government to order an independent enquiry in the matter.

"It's a very serious matter. It is an allegation, very serious allegation on the former prime minister of India (Rajiv Gandhi). The least the government can do is to order an independent enquiry so that we can know what the facts are," said Punj.

Politicos demand Sonia Gandhi's explanation
Cutting across party lines, leaders of various political outfits on Monday sought an explanation from Congress chief Sonia Gandhi over the latest revelations by US cables WikiLeaks.

Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut stressed that Sonia Gandhi was the one, who must now clarify these revelations made by WikiLeaks.

"A lot of points have now come out and they are concerning a former Prime Minister of this country. Today, his wife is the biggest political figure in the country and it is now Sonia Gandhi's responsibility to give a clarification on this issue.

Communist Party of India (CPI) national secretary Atul Anjan said the latest revelations by US cables WikiLeaks naming late former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi in a scandal would create fresh problems for the Gandhi family, and sought an explanation from them on the entire issue.

"The revelations made by WikiLeaks on Rajiv Gandhi will now create fresh problems for the Nehru-Gandhi family, Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi. And they would have to answer for these revelations," said Anjan.

"There is truth in these facts as names of other senior administrative officers are there in this expose and there are those people who have been close to the Nehru family, like Henry Kissinger," he added.

Meanwhile, Communist Party of India (Marxist) leader Prakash Karat expressed serious concern over the issue.

"What it shows is this a matter of great and wider concern that you have over the years foreign arms dealers and companies having this nexus with Indian people, political connections and the bureaucracy and the system in India. This is a matter, which already is there. There are so many recent contracts of arms deals," said Karat.

"So, I think it should be taken as something which confirms that this nexus exists," he added.

Samajwadi party leader Kamal Farooqi said that we should not dig up the past, but try to make corrections in the system.

"I personally feel that we should not go into the past so much rather whatever has happened in the past, it should be a lesson for us in future and we should try to correct our system, we should try to make everything foolproof so that there is no element of correction in all this kind of deals," he said.

1. THE SWEDES HERE ARE ONCE AGAIN OPTIMISTIC ABOUT THEIR CHANCES OF SELLING THE VIGGEN TO THE INDIAN AIR FORCE. THE SAAB SCANIA SALES MANAGER AND THE CHIEF TECHNICAL ADVISOR, THE FORMER ACTING COMMANDER OF THE SWEDISH AIR FORCE, RETURNED TO NEW DELHI TEN DAYS AGO FOR CONFERENCES WITH THE INDIANS. THE TECHNICAL ADVISOR IS STILL HERE AND WILL REMAIN AS LONG AS NECESSARY TO HANDLE QUESTIONS FROM THE NEW INDIAN DEFENSE MINISTER AND NEW IAF CHIEF OF THE STAFF, BOTH OF WHOM ACCORDING TO OUR SWEDISH COLLEAGUE, REQUIRE TIME TO BRIEF THEMSELVES ON THE COMPETING FIGHTERS. CONFIDENTIAL CONFIDENTIAL PAGE 02 NEW DE 01909 061554Z 2. THE SWEDES HERE EXPECT THAT THE IAF WILL SEND A TEST PILOT TO SWEDEN TO FLY THE VIGGEN SINCE THE CURRENT MODELS COMING OFF THE LINE ARE AIRWORTHY. HE TELLS US THE INDIANS HAVE ACCEPTED THE EXPLANATION FOR THE WING STRUCTURAL DEFECT WHICH TEMPORARILY GROUNDED THE EARLY MODELS. 3. THE SWEDES BELIEVE THEIR MOST TELLING POINT, HOWEVER, IS THE LONGEVITY OF THE AIRCRAFT. THEY SAY THEY HAVE CON- VINCED THE IAF THAT THE REPLACEABLE AVIONICS PACKAGES IN THE VIGGEN RENDER IT CAPABLE OF PERIODIC MODERNIZATION WITH THE RESULT THAT IT WILL BE VIABLE UNTIL 2000 (WHICH SOUNDS A BIT FAR FETCHED TO US). OUR SWEDISH COLLEAGUE SAID THE PROPOSAL CONTINUES TO BE THAT THE INDIANS BUILD THE AIRFRAMES AND POSSIBLY SOME ENGINES OR ENGINE COMPONENTS, BUT THE SWEDES PROVIDE THE AVIONICS. SINCE THE INDIANS WANT "THE BEST", ACCORDING TO OUR SWEDISH CONTACT, THE IAF REGARDS THE AVIONICS AS VITAL. MOREOVER, THE SWEDES WOULD NOT CONSIDER SELLING THE VIGGEN WITHOUT THE "BLACK BOXES." THESE FACTORS, THE SWEDES ASSERT, GO A LONG WAY TO OFFSET THE DISADVANTAGE OF RELATIVELY HIGH INITIAL UNIT COST. ANOTHER INDUCEMENT, AS SEEN BY THE SWEDES HERE, IS THAT SAAB SCANIA HAS COMPLETED ITS SURVEY OF INDIAN EXPORTS AND CONCLUDED IT COULD MARKET SEVERAL ITEMS IN SWEDEN OR THE WEST MAKING A BARTER TYPE ARRANGEMENT AT LEAST FEASIBLE FROM THE SWEDISH POINT OF VIEW. 4. THE SWEDISH FOREIGN MINISTER IS DUE ON A VISIT TO NEW DELHI CIRCA MARCH 1. THE SWEDES ARE BRACED FOR ANOTHER INDIAN APPEAL FOR CREDIT WHICH OUR COLLEAGUE SAYS SWEDEN WILL NOT GRANT, BUT HE DID SAY THE MINISTER WOULD STRONGLY SUPPORT THE VIGGEN SALE. OUR COLLEAGUE WOULD NOT SAY WHAT OTHER CONCESSIONS THE SWEDES MAY BE CONSIDERING. 5. THE SWEDES HERE HAVE ALSO MADE IT QUITE CLEAR THEY UNDERSTAND THE IMPORTANCE OF FAMILY INFLUENCES IN THE FINAL DECISION IN THE FIGHTER SWEEPSTAKES. OUR COLLEAGUE DESCRIBES RANJIV GANDHI IN FLATTERING TERMS, AND CONTENDS HIS TECHNICAL EXPERTISE IS OF A HIGH LEVEL. THIS MAY OR MAY NOT BE. OFFHAND WE WOULD HAVE THOUGHT A TRANSPORT PILOT NOT THE BEST EXPERT TO RELY UPON IN EVALUATING A FIGHTER PLANE, BUT THEN WE ARE SPEAKING OF A TRANSPORT PILOT WHO HAS ANOTHER AND PERHAPS MORE RELEVANT QUALIFICATION.
