Assam Congress heavyweight Himanta Biswa Sharma meets Amit Shah, to join BJP

GUWAHATI-DELHI: In a major jolt to the ruling Congress in Assam prior to next year's assembly elections, former state public health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma today met BJP national president Amit Shah in New Delhi, he is likely to join BJP soon.

He accompanied by Assam BJP president Siddhartha Bhattacharya to meet BJP national president Amit Shah. and discussed a series of issues including the current political situation in Assam like floods etc.
He expressed willingness to work under the strong and outright leadership of PM  Narendra Modi and BJP president Amitbhai Shah.

He posted a on his Facebook wall: "Obeying massive calls since last few months from people of Assam from all communities, I will be formally joining Bharatiya Janata Party for A strong  and resurgent Assam and Northeast under the bold and vibrant leadership of PM Narendra bhai Modiji.
"Requesting all here to forge together for a Resurgent and strong Assam and Northeast," Sharma wrote.

Sarma has been representing Guwahati's Jalukbari assembly segment since 2001, was one of the important leader of the ruling Congress Party in Assam and played a key role in wresting the power power in Assam in last 3 elections.
Sarma is expressing discord since 2011 and stressing for a change in the Assam state leadership. He vociferously resigned from Gogoi cabinet in 2014.
