Court issues warrant against Orissa Catholic priest

The warrant was issued on February 22 after Father Ajay Kumar Singh ignored two earlier summons.A fast-track court in Orissa has issued an arrest warrant for a Catholic priest for failing to appear before it.

The priest, whose office was destroyed during the 2008 anti-Christian violence in the state, has now been given until March 4 to appear.

Father Singh said Feb. 25 that he had refused to appear before the court because he questioned its ability to deliver justice.

He said he had named 117 people as accused but the court split the case into two, proceeding to hear the case of those accused who came for a hearing. The court acquitted them in November 2010 despite several witnesses testifying against them. Father Singh said he stayed away after the same judge began hearing the second part of the action.

"I am aggrieved for not getting justice," said Father Singh, who then approached a higher court seeking a transfer of the case. "The District Sessions Judge sat on the case for nearly three months," he said.

The fast-track courts set up to speed up cases related to anti-Christian violence has become too fast for the comfort of the victims, Father Singh says. "It is bent on completing the trial, but in the process I am afraid the victims are not getting justice," Father Singh said.

The courts dispose off cases without proper investigation, he says. "The prosecution bias and state complicity have rendered the victims hapless. It is gross injustice," he said.

"If such things are to happen to us, priests, what is the fate of poor and ignorant villagers?" he asked. "It is quite scary."

Father Singh wants a special investigation team from the federal government to monitor the cases. "Otherwise, the seeker of justice has to be on the run," he added.

Father Singh directs the Jan Vikas (people's advancement), the social service center of Cuttack-Bhubaneswar archdiocese, near Balliguda in Kandhamal district. A Catholic nun was raped at the center during the violence.

Supreme Court Judge reiterated-Conversion not a constitutional right

Maintaining that there was no constitutional right to convert a person from one religion to another, justice P Sathasivan of the Supreme Court on Saturday said the right to propagate one's religion was not an unrestricted right.

Delivering the third Dr LM Singhvi Memorial Lecture on "Secularism and Rule of Law in India," justice Sathasivam said the state has a right to pass laws restricting conversions if such activities created public disorder.

Quoting from the SC's 1977 verdict in Stainislaus vs State of Madhya Pradesh & Orissa, he said: "The right to propagate means the right to 'transmit and spread one's religion by an exposition of its tenets'. But…there is no constitutional right to convert a person from one religion to another, because this would impinge on the 'freedom of conscience' guaranteed to all the citizens of the country alike."

The Supreme Court delineated the boundaries of the right to propagate in the context of state legislation prohibiting forcible conversions, said justice Sathasivam, who headed the bench, which made a controversial remark against religious conversions while upholding the conviction of Dara Singh in the Graham Staines murder case last month.

But the bench chose to modify it after several Christian organisations termed it uncalled for and demanded its withdrawal.

On state's the right to pass legislation restricting conversions, justice Sathasivam, quoting from an SC verdict said: "the 'public order' provision of Article 25(1) of the Constitution has a 'wide connotation' and that the state could legislate conversions if they 'created public disorder."

While maintaining, "Secularism is the part of the basic structure of the Constitution," he said the term 'secular' has not been defined, presumably because it is a very elastic term not capable of a precise definition and perhaps best left undefined.

He, however, said in Indian context secularism meant "Sarva Dharma Sambhav" ie tolerance for all religions, which springs from due deliberation for one's own happiness and also for welfare of all beings.

Quota Won't Benefit Jamia..

Firoz Bakht Ahmed
Fri Feb 25 2011, 02:01 hrs

With Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) getting the “minority” tag through the quasi-judicial body NCMEI (National Commission for Minority Educational Institutions), Muslims across the nation are jubilant, as they think they have won a big legal war. But quotas based on religion are unconstitutional. If at all reservations are to be there, these must go to the category of have-nots, no matter what their religion.
Muslims have not even won a small battle, let alone a war. These quotas are going to alienate them further. There is a potential threat of the historic Jamia falling into the clutches of fundamentalists. Merit will take a back seat as well.

If we go on politically appeasing each and every section of the population on the basis of caste, creed and religion, India will be a divided house. I pity the majority community, which, after 22 per cent SC/ST reservation, 27.9 per cent OBC reservation, Kashmiri migrants reservation, army personnel reservation and now 50 per cent Jamia-like reservation, has actually become the victimised “minority” instead of the “majority”.

Reservations are no more than crutches for Muslims as the only solution lies in competing and making a mark in the field of merit. There’s a message for all the so-called “friends” of Muslims howling for reservations that an ostrich mentality is never going to help them. Moreover, they must not fall into the vote-bank trap of the Congress.

The very fact that the secular character of Jamia is enshrined in its basic Act contradicts this decision to declare it a minority institution. It was mooted at the behest of Mahatma Gandhi and Maulana Mohammed Ali Jauhar together, and nowhere is it mentioned that Jamia was created by the Muslims and for the Muslims only.

As a law-abiding and educated Indian Muslim, I feel reservation — a word misused by one political party or the other to cajole and fool Muslims — based on religion should end. In fact, it is time Muslims are dissuaded from reservation and persuaded to launch themselves into the mainstream by hard work.

I want the minorities to have an honourable place by no longer looking for charity in the form of quota and accepting the challenges of a competitive life.

Reservation degrades the universal concept of merit, logically as well as ethically. Reservation on the basis of religion is uncalled for in a secular polity. Let us not harm our future because of unequal treatment in the past. In light of their past contribution to the nation, be it in the field of sport, art or architecture or during the freedom struggle, Muslims must ask themselves what they can give to the nation and not just vice-versa.

However, it should be clear that Muslims are among the most disadvantaged and backward of all the underprivileged sections of society. According to a survey by Friends for Education, an NGO, almost 52 per cent Muslims live below the poverty line, compared to about 25 per cent of all Indians. Of every 100 Muslim students admitted at the primary level, only four pass out of high school while only one makes it to college.

In the armed forces, the percentage is just 2.4 while in judiciary departments all over the country, it doesn’t go beyond 3.1. In the last civil services exam, only 11 Muslims were among 422 successful candidates. The situation continues to be the same in other walks of life. Reservation cannot bring any change in this pathetic state of affairs; only a sincere and concerted effort to uplift Muslims educationally can do that.

Jawaharlal Nehru, addressing a session of the Constituent Assembly on May 26, 1949, said, “If you seek to give safeguards to a minority, you isolate it. Maybe you protect it to a slight extent, but at what cost? At the cost of isolating and keeping it away from the main current.”

It would be worth examining what the founding fathers say about reservation. Sardar Patel supported the charter providing political safeguards to minorities, under Articles 292 and 294 of the Draft Constitution, but five out of seven leaders, namely Maulana Abul Kalam Azad, Maulana Hifzur Rehman, Begum Aizaz Rasul, Hussainbhoy Laljee and Tajammul Hussain, opposed it.

Can jobs against a quota end their woes? How can the educational, economic and social condition of 15 per cent of a billion people be expected to change with a few seats in a university or some government jobs? Those who are really interested in the uplift of Muslims should vigorously support the inbuilt social reform current growing in the community, promote literacy and education campaigns, insist on gender equality in family and inheritance laws, educate the girl child and create opportunities for hapless Muslims so that they empower themselves through education and the acquisition of new skills.

Notice to Raashid Alvi-Muslim Member of Parliament of Rajya Sabha

Today notice has been issued to Rajya Sabha MP Raashid Alvi for making objectionable statements on domestic issues in foreign country. While on foreign tour to Saudi Arabia on Feb 7th 2011,Raashid Alvi demanded ban on RSS,which is breach of privilege of Rajya Sabha.Demanding ban on RSS while on foreign tour Raashid Alvi attempted to create pressure on government of India and thereby violated the oath taken by him while becoming MP of Rajya Sabha. If he really wanted to demand ban on any Indian organization he could demand it in Parliament but instead of doing so he has demanded it in Saudi Arabia. His statement in Saudi Arabia clearly proves that Raashid Alvi has no faith on Indian democratic system,he has no respect for Parliament and he has no faith on Indian judiciary,so he has made such statement on foreign soil. Also his statement made impression that there is no rule of law in India,so Indian MP has no other way than to appeal ban on particular Indian organization on foreign soil.
In notice issued to Raashid Alvi We have demanded clarification and unconditional apology from Alvi for internationalizing domestic issue and for insulting Indian state and Parliament. If Raashid Alvi fails to do so,We would appeal to Speaker of Rajya Sabha and President of India to demand action against Raashid Alvi.

By 2030 Europe Would Be More Muslim Than Christian

Europe will need to adapt to diversity, say experts
According to population projections, Europe’s Muslim community is expected to increase by a third by 2030. Globally, the Muslim population is expected to grow at about twice the rate of the non-Muslim one.

Currently the estimated population of Muslims in Europe is around 44 million. According to population projections from the US-based Pew Research Center, by 2030 this figure will have increased by almost a third to just over 58 million.
In Europe as a whole, the Muslim share of the population will rise from six percent of inhabitants in 2010, to 8 percent in 2030.
Pew states that factors including higher fertility rates among Muslim women and improving health and economic conditions in Muslim majority countries are reasons why the population is growing.
Impact on Europe
By 2030, Pew projected that France and Belgium would join eight other countries where Muslims make up more than 10 percent of the total population.Employment is a main area of discrimination against Muslims
Tufyal Choudhury authored the 'At Home in Europe' project for the Open Society Foundation, which examined the attitudes of Muslims in seven EU countries. He told Deutsche Welle that European policymakers and practitioners would need to "adapt to diversity."
"In terms of delivery of education, employment, health services there will need to be an adaptation to greater diversity in society, not just Muslims per se," said Choudhury.
Europe will also need to improve the way it tackles discrimination, says the EU Agency for Fundamental Rights (FRA).
"One in three Muslims is being discriminated right now," spokesperson Blanca Tapia told Deutsche Welle. "The highest area of discrimination is in employment and this is a key part of the integration process, so that migrants can contribute to society."
Developing integration
The forecast that the Muslim population is to grow is likely to fuel the already fiery European topic of integration. The subject of how minorities integrate with majorities in society has been long debated in Germany, France, the UK and several other EU countries.Pew said the definition of 'Muslim' used is very broadly
The balance between allowing Muslims to practice their faith in freedom and expecting them to adapt to life in a traditionally Christian culture is not an easy one.
"Integration is working," said Choudhury. "Europe doesn't see that integration takes three generations, and it is roughly where it should be when it comes to generation number two."
Choudhury argued it is part of a normal pattern for there to be tensions with second generation immigrants, as they try to find a balance between the culture and history of their parents and their sense of belonging in the European country of their birth.
Special treatment?
As Europe's population changes, attitudes will also start to change said Choudhury.
"It important to recognize that what many Muslims would see as equal treatment, such as the provision of Halal meat, may be seen by non-Muslims as special, or privileged treatment," he said.
This is the area where Europe is most unsure of itself, as seen with the issue over whether to ban or allow the Islamic face veil which dominated debate in France and Belgium.
European countries will have to decide whether equal treatment means the same for everyone, or recognizing difference and diversity.

RSS Will Never Tolerate Conversion-Mohanrao Bhagwat

February 18, 2011

“If all religions are equal, why should I not stay in my religion? But the world is imperialist; they can’t accept diversity … We (Hindus) will have to act and not just talk. Throw open temples, public wells and cremation grounds for all without restrictions of caste, region or language.” This is Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat talking at the Samajik (social) Kumbh at Mandla, 95 km from Jabalpur in MP. By preaching the inclusive nature of Hinduism, the RSS is sending ample signals that it is viewing the task of preventing tribals from converting to Christianity as a matter of utmost importance.
It has announced another such Kumbh in Chhattisgarh, though the date is yet to be decided. Though the mission, which the Sangh kicked off through its affiliate Vanavasi Kalyan Ashram in 1952, is not new, it has acquired greater urgency.

And this has made Christian groups wary.

The Mandla kumbh had strong underpinnings of anti-church sentiment, though Bhagwat articulated his call of embracing marginal groups through what is called Samrasta (harmony) in RSS parlance. But other speakers were at times harsh on the church. “2000 varsh purane keet-patang aaj hamain seva bhaav sikha rahein hain (Insects just 2000 years old are today teaching us service),” said a speaker who spoke just before Bhagwat.

However, Sangh functionaries denied that the kumbh was aimed at running down any other community. "Some outsiders may have spread rumours that this kumbh is anti-Christian. Local Christians are, in fact, supporting it,” RSS Akhil Bharatiya Prachar Pramukh Manmohan Vaidya told HT.

“The purpose is to create a sense of pride in our glorious culture and to get all communities on board.”

Christian leaders in neighbouring Jabalpur expressed apprehensions that the mobilisation was aimed against the community. “Why should one group (RSS) claim thekedari over society,” a prominent Christian leader told HT on anonymity. “When Christian foreigners chant
Hare Ram Hare Krishna, we all welcome it. So what is the problem if some Hindus willingly embrace Christianity? We are not here to convert but to serve and provide education to tribals.”

Clearly, the cultural encounter has generated its set of tensions.

Another theme in the Mandla speeches was to prevent the loss of numbers to Christianity through conversion. This, of course, has been a prime Hindu right-wing theme ever since Colonel UN Mukherjee published a tract called “Hindus: A Dying Race” way back in 1909, which used census figures to argue that if conversions continued, Hindus would eventually die out as a community.

Much of the Hindu Right’s attempt to reach out to tribals as also Dalits since the late 19th and early 20th centuries was a result of fears that they would convert to Christianity or Islam and weaken the Hindu community at a time when numbers were becoming crucial due to impending democracy. Little, it seems, has changed. The contest for the minds of tribals rages on, and so do tensions generated by it.

The Christian “fear”

*In 1909, Col UN Mukherjee wrote a pamphlet ‘Hindus – A Dying Race’, arguing that conversions would lead to the Hindu community’s death.

*Arya Samaj leader Swami Shraddhanand – the proponent of the famous Shuddhi movement for re-conversions in colonial India – pioneered native girls’education in north India with a Kanya Mahavidyala in 1894 to prevent missionary influence on women.

*In 1952, the tribal affiliate of the RSS, Vanavasi Kalyan Ashram, set base in Jashpur (today’s Chhattisgarh) to counter Church activities that were on in the area since the 19th century.

*This is what former RSS chief MS Golwalkar’s ‘Bunch of Thoughts’ says: “So long as Christians here… consider themselves agents of the international movement for the spread of Christianity,… they will remain here as hostiles and will be treated as such.”
Christians are only worried because now RSS and it's affiliated organisations has engaged Christians groups engaged in conversions all over India,in all affected tribal groups. And Christians are fighting loosing battle against RSS led Hindu organisations.

Apology by Aziz Burney - victory of pursuing lawful path

Apology by Aziz Burney - victory of pursuing lawful path
Vinay Joshi,
Vivek
February 12, 2011.

After the terrorist attack on Mumbai on November 26, 2008, Urdu mass
media and Muslim society in general started venomous propaganda against
Hindutvawadi organizations and Indian Security Forces. The daily Rojnama
Rashtriya Sahara is one such example. The daily had published anti-
national writings after the 26/11 incident. Advocate Prashant Maggu and
Vinay Joshi fought a legal battle against this. Aziz Burney,
editor-in-chief of Rojnama Rashtriya Sahara apologized to the nation in
his daily on January 29, 2011. The article below (translated from the
Marathi weekly provides information about the legal battle.

Kasab's testimony during the inquiry in Mumbai terrorist attack on
November 26, 2008 brought forward names like Hafiz Sayed, Pakistan and
ISI. Within a month after the attack, the eminent Urdu daily Rojnama
Rashtriya Sahara started publishing several articles linking Mossad,
intelligence bureau from Israel, CIA, American Intelligence force and
Rashtriya Swayamsevak Singh (RSS) to 26/11 attack.

Almost all Urdu dailies were publishing similar type of articles. But
Rojnama Rashtria Sahara published a special edition in January 2009
entitled Shaheed-E -Vatan Hemant Karkare Ko Salam! (Salute to martyr
Hemant Karkare!) The issue was published simultaneously in Urdu, Hindi
and English. In this edition, charges were leveled against Indian army,
Intelligence bureau, RSS, CIA and Mossad. These charges were similar to
charges leveled by media in Pakistan regarding 26/11 incident. It
implied that the terrorist attack in Mumbai was carried out with the
consent and cooperation from these four agencies.

Apart from these the main arguments in the charges made by Sahara were:

1)The security force in Nepal arrested Ajmal Kasab two years ago in
Kathmandu and Indian intelligence bureau brought him to India after
26/11attack on Mumbai.
2) The higher authorities with criminal background from Mumbai police
force killed Hemant Karkare with the help of Indian army.
3) CIA, Mossad, Narendra Modi and RSS are responsible for 26/11 attack.
4)Constables from Mumbai police force fired at CST railway station and
some BJP volunteers who had already arrested Kasab brought him before CC
TV camera.

After reading these allegations we wrote a letter to Mumbai police
commissioner seeking clarification regarding these allegations and
asking to file a crime suit against Sahara. In its reply Mumbai police
commissioner refused to take action by stating that this issue is in the
power of Delhi police.

Having left with no option, we filed a court suit against Aziz Burney,
editor-in-chief of Sahara (Urdu) on August 9, 2009. The charges were
involvement in anti-national activities, plotting against the country
and waging a war against the country. Advocate Prashant Maggu appealed
an action under articles 121, 108, 107, 117, 124 (A), 153 (A), 153 (B),
505 (2) and 506 of Indian constitution and MOCCA (Maharashtra organized
Crime Control Act). The allegations leveled by Aziz Burney refuted the
claims made on international level by Indian external affairs ministry,
central home ministry and Mumbai police and defamed Indian security
forces and intelligence forces, so it was necessary to take action
against them.

An appeal was made to press council of India to cancel recognition of
Rojnama Rashtriya Sahara. Press council is still investigating the
matter. Later information was collected regarding Burney's international
visits along with the prime minister. The man who was involved in
writing anti-national articles was provided with security service of
Central Industrial Security Force. Notice was issued to take away the
security. The central home ministry took a prompt action and removed the
security of Burney.

When this case was filed, Burney was trying an entry in Rajya Sabha
through president's reserved quota. But there was a stay on his entry to
Rajya Sabha because of this court suit. Engrossed with problems all
around, on January 29, 20011, Aziz Burney apologized on the front page
in his paper Rojnama Rashtriya Sahara. Advocate Prashant Maggu fought
the case bravely and lodged complaints constantly against Burney's
anti-national writings. Though Aziz Burney has apologized to the
country, the court battle against his anti-national activities will
continue in future also.

The role of Urdu media in India regarding terrorism is extremely
objectionable. Rakesh Sinha, Pro. India policy Foundation, Delhi has
discussed in details the anti-national stance by Urdu media in his book
'terrorism and Indian media". It is clear that the main motive of people
like Aziz Burney or Digvijay Singh is creating doubt in the minds of
journalists, citizens, media, investigative agencies, armed forces and
secondly to hide the pro terrorist activities by Pakistan. To control
these activities, we should always follow lawful means and be prepared
for the persistent legal battle.

The venomous propaganda by Rojnama Rashtria Sahara is not the only
example. There are numerous newspapers, weeklies, monthlies and
individuals all around involved in anti-national writings. We should be
always alert and be aware of their activities and should nullify their
activities by pursuing a lawful path.

Christians disappointed after Binayak Sen verdict, but Why?

According to cathnews portal,Christians are disappointed due to High Court's decision on Dr Binayak Sen's jail term.If a person gets involved in terror activities,he must face punishment which law offers. But here Christians from all over world are expressing concern on court's decision, which is quite unfortunate. When Hindu saint Aseemanand arrested for bomb blast case, and no one knew about his involvement in bomb blast, same Christian community declared him proven terrorist and demanded stern action. But now, when Dr Binayak Sen found guilty in harboring terror acts why Christians should be disappointed?
Does it proves that Christians affection towards Indian constitution is provisional? or they respects Indian constitution only when they wants it?Christian society of India gradually getting alienated from Indian society due to such divisive and anti-national stance.
Oh God forgive them, for they not no what they are doing...........

Maoist Supporter Christian Doctor Binayak Sen's Jail Term Confirmed By Bilaspur Court

RAIPUR,Chhattisgadh — Bilaspur court on Thursday refused bail to a doctor sentenced to life in prison on charges of helping Maoist insurgents, in a case that has drawn international condemnation.
Binayak Sen, a paediatrician and militant, was jailed for life in December after prosecutors successfully argued that he helped Maoist guerillas create an urban network and acted as go-between for a left-wing leader and a businessman.
Sen is appealing against the conviction, but a court in Bilaspur, a town in the insurgency-riven state of Chhattisgarh, denied him bail.
Mahendra Dubey, Sen's lawyer, told MNN that "the only option left to us is to go to the Supreme Court."
Sen, 60, was arrested in 2007 on charges of waging war against India.
He had been running health clinics and training health workers in Chhattisgarh's tribal communities, among India's poorest people and whose plight the Maoist rebels claim to champion.
"The court could not find valid ground to give him any concession," Kishore Bhaduri, the lawyer who argued against Sen's bail petition, told MNN.
Sen's wife, Ilina Sen(also supporter of Insurgency), told television news channel that she was "very disappointed" by the "entirely one-sided judgment" to deny her husband bail.
"I will file a special petition before the Supreme Court. I hope that it will be accepted and that there will be justice," she said.
Before Thursday's hearing, a group of 40 Nobel laureates backed by Christian missionaries called for his release, expressing their support for "Christian activist and Maoist ideologue."
The Maoist movement, which began in 1967, flourished after getting immense backing from Christian mission.
Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has called the Maoist insurgency India's main internal security threat.
Last week, union home minister P. Chidambaram said that a record number of people were killed in clashes between the insurgents and police in 2010, including 718 civilians, 285 policemen and 171 suspected rebels.

Narmada Kumbh Started-No Violence Against Christians Reported So Far

Narmada Kumbh started here in Mandala today, with dozens of special figures reached here.Various Sants,Mahants,RSS Chieaf Mahanrao Bhagwat and other top RSS leaders present here.
As per fears expressed by Christian community,no violence against Christian community reported so far.And thus RSS allegation of in sighting violence against John Dayal proved true.

Christian Persecution Due To Narmada Kumbh?

Indian Christians are expressing fears that there would be attacks on Christians after or during Narmada Kumbh,as there is congregation of lacks of Hindus at Mandala district of central Indian province of Madhya Pradesh.Christians has also filed the petition in Madhya Pradesh High Court seeking additional security arrangements to safeguard security of Christians in and around Mandala.
But according to organizers of Narmada Kumbh, these fears are unfounded and it has nothing to do with reality. One of the top leader from Hindu organization has said that, these are Christians who has history of violence against people who resists conversion activities of Christians. He further said that Hindu leader Swami Lakshmananand Saraswati had been mercilessly eliminated by Christians as he resisted conversion in Orissa-eastern Indian state of India. The Hindu monk had best network on ground which made Christian missionaries difficult to convert a single tribal.
Also it is the fact that,if Hindu organizations with the membership of millions of Indians decides to attack Christians residing in India,no government agency has a capacity to protect them, but it is the reality that not due to government security arrangements but due to Hindu tolerance, Christians are living safely in India without any persecution.
But if people like John Dayal continues to polarize Hindus and Christians on religious ground then he would be taken as responsible for any future trouble caused to Christians. As John Dayal is making provocative comments and expressing apprehensions about violence against Christians,he really wants religious conflicts in the area. Also Christian leaders like John Dayal has fond of fishing in troubled waters.Recent comments and petitions at least proves this.

After repeated attempts we cannot verify the news of his resignation. But one thing is clear that his days are numbered in Sahara, and he must quit Sahara group within days to come.

Christian leaders’ apprehension about Narmada Kumbh unfounded

The apprehension expressed by leaders of Madhya Pradesh Christian Federation regarding the Ma Narmada Samajik Kumbh being organized at Mandla in Madhya Pradesh from Feb 10-12, 2011 are not only unfounded but imaginative and far from the ground reality.

According to reports published in a section of Press on February 9, 2011 the Convener of Madhya Pradesh Christian Federation, Bhopal, Sri Anand Mutungal addressed a Press Conference and expressed fears that the Christians in and around Mandla were being forced to reconvert to Hinudism during the Kumbh. He alleged that the Kumbh activists have asked the Christians to fill a form stating their willingness to reconvert to Hinduism.

The Christian leader further blamed the Kumbh activists for displaying huge boards against the Christian community which has led to instilling fear complex among the members of the Christian community. The Federation also demanded total security from the state government and even decided to move a PIL in the Jabalpur High Court in this regard.

A couple of days ago the Vice-President of All India Christian Council John Dayal had leveled similar baseless allegations against the organizers of Narmada Kumbh.

The Ma Narmada Samajik Kumbh Ayojan Samiti, Mandla out rightly rejects and refutes all the allegations leveled by the Convener of the Madhya Pradesh Christian Federation as they are totally unfounded and far from the truth. The preparations for Narmada Kumbh are being held since past six months and during this period no where any activist of the Kumbh Samiti had threatened or asked any member of the Christian community to get reconverted to Hinduism or fill in the form to that effect. Not a single complaint has been lodged against any of the Kumbh activists in this regards in Mandla.

On the contrary the Christians in Mandla have welcomed the Kumbh by putting a huge display board at Bharat Jyoti Vidyalaya, run by Christian missionary organization in Mandla. Not only this, many a Christians have been attending the discourses on Ram Katha being held at Kumbh premises since past one week. Even the Muslims of Mandla have joined the Christians in welcoming the Kumbh in Mandla.

The Christian Missions and Church organizations have been engaged in conversion of poor, ignorant, illiterate and backward Hindus living in remote hilly and forest area to Christianity by allurement, deceit or by force. They are also responsible for creating an anti-India feeling amongst these converted masses. The militancy and insurgency in the North-eastern states of India and other tribal-dominated pockets of the country bear testimony to this. Way back in the 50s, the Justice Bhavani Shankar Niyogi Commission appointed by the then Madhya Pradesh Government headed by the Late Ravi Shankar Shukla to probe the activities of Christian Missionaries in the state, have given ample proofs of their involvement in such activities-direct or indirect.

The Wadhwa Commision probing Graham Stains murder case have also categorically pointed out to the involvement of Christian Missionaries in conversion of Hindus in remote areas.

The legacy still continues as is evident from the recent happenings in Kandhmal area of Orissa where Swami Laxmananda was eliminated for preaching true religion among the tribal communities.

It has been the habit of the Christian Church organizations and their leaders to blame the Hindu organization whenever and wherever such events take place. The records of the recent past will prove this point. Very recently, the one-man Somasekhara Commission appointed by the Karnataka Government has also absolved the Hindu organizations of any involvement in attacks on churches that took place sometime ago.

But these Christian leaders seem to have resorted to their old game of blaming Hindu organizations leveling allegations which do not have any foundation. It is their figment of imagination and a deliberate attempt to vitiate the communal harmony and social peace in the peaceful city of Mandla.

The Ma Narmada Samajik Kumbh Ayojan Samiti appeals to the Hindu and Christian communities not to get misled by such malicious and false propaganda and thwart these ill-intentioned attempts of the self-styled leaders of the Christian community.

Vote bank politics responsible for infiltration: Meghalaya DGP

Shillong, Jan 31 (PTI) Holding vote bank politicsresponsible for the illegal infiltration from Bangladesh, outgoing Meghalaya Director General of Police Sibabrata Kakatihas said that politicians are reluctant to solve the "serious"issue.

"It is a serious problem. Demographic changes arerapid. Political parties are not keen on solving the issue. Itis because of political patronage and vote bank politics thatthe problem has assumed such serious proportions," Kakati toldPTI in an interview.

Kakati, a 1976 IPS officer of Assam-Meghalaya cadrewho retires today, said that though the rate of present influxis not as threatening as before, but "people were still comingfrom across the border".

"The solution to the problem is economic. You have tohave your own labour force. Now, when more and moreenterprises are coming up, unless you fill up that vacumn ofrequired manpower the problem would persist. Assam will beswamped if it goes on like this," he said.

On the insurgency scenario in the region, the seniorIPS officer who has served in various branches of the securityapparatus in the Northeast, said it is difficult to take outthe roots of militancy from the region.

"If you satisfy one group, another outfit comes up.

The futility of armed movement is yet to be understood by theyouth. They are not enlightened. We will have to keep onfacing the menace," Kakati said, pointing to the "war criesgiven by an ULFA faction led by Paresh Barua at a time whenanother groups is readying for the talks".

He, however, described the militancy as a "moneymaking business" taken up by some "opportunists".

"Many outfits have realised that armed revolution isnot possible because of the might of the state and so theyhave come overground. But small groups will keep on surfacing.

The history of the region speaks for it," the outgoing DGP,who also had a stint with the paramilitary BSF, said.

He also felt that the "propensity of that kind(militancy) will exist in the Garo hills of Meghalaya becauseof the economic disparity faced by the areas in relation toother parts".

Concerned over the rising cases of crime against womenin the matrilineal society of Meghalaya, he rued that morethan 500 rape cases are pending trial since years.

"Unless exemplary punishment is given to the guilty, this menace will keep on plaguing the society. Even theSupreme Court has said that courts can take strong view insuch cases," Kakati observed.

Rape cases are reported very late in the state and asa result the evidentiary value goes down, he said.
