Subject: CBCI, Please Speak Something About Pynursla Gangrape in Meghalaya
To: Baselios Cleemis , Baselios Cleemis

To,
Cardinal Cleemis Catholics,
President,
The Catholic Bishops' Conference of India (C.B.C.I.)

Hello,
We have came across news reports that CBCI condemned murder of journalist Gauri Lankesh few weeks ago. We appreciate CBCI's concerns regarding free speech and we equally appreciate swiftness with which Catholic Bishop body expressed itself after Lankesh murder. But what baffled Legal Rights Observatory is the stoic silence by CBCI in gang-rape of a girl at Pynursla in Khasi Hills of Meghalaya by culprits very close to Catholic Church.
Also the professionalism which Catholic Church shown in stalling Police action and arrest of culprits is really matter of concern for Meghalaya's Civil Society Groups and Women Rights Bodies in North East India.
If responsible religious body like CBCI, with Pan-Indian presence behaves in such a biased manner while dealing with issues pertaining to atrocities on womanhood, then credibility of CBCI as dedicated religious body will receive irreparable jolt.
So, as a legal rights group, Legal Rights Observatory- LRO requests CBCI to come out openly, condemn gang rape on girl in Pynursla and order you local officer bearers not to indulge and pressurize law enforcement agencies in this heinous  act.
The swift action by CBCI in this matter can still salvage its image and can re-establish its credibility as upright, professional and moral religious authority.

Regards,
Convener

Paid News Complaint Filed Against Goa Catholic Bishop's Magazine for Its Appeal During Manohar Parrikar By-election

Legal Rights Observatory filed paid news complaint against Goa and Daman Catholic Bishop's mouthpiece magazine under Representatives of People's Act 1951 for its article before last months assembly by-election on Panaji assembly seat where chief minister Manohar Parrikar was candidate.
In the controversial article the article authored by a lawyer had appealed people to vote against Manohar Parrikar and defeat him in election.
LRO shot a complaint to Goa State Election Commission to investigate what Catholic Magazine and its owners received quid pro quo by publishing the article and whether there any financial transactions between rival political parties and Catholic leaders.
Also LRO requested Election Commission to refer Balasaheb Thakarey VS Election Commission case in which Sena chief was stripped off of his voting rights for using religious appeal in elections. Here is the copy of LRO complaint.

Interrogate Scroll for Gauri Lankesh Murder, LRO Writes to NIA DG

Legal Rights Observatory writes letter to National Investigation Agency- NIA to investigate Scroll website's reporters in journalist Gauri Lankesh murder case. The Scroll website has published a report quoting "Friends and Associates" of Gauri Lankesh which have clues about killers of Lankesh. Gauri Lankesh was shot dead in Bengaluru yesterday by unidentified gunmen.

Here is the copy of the LRO letter to DG- NIA
-----
To,
Shri. Sharad Kumar, IPS
DG NIA,

About:- Possible evidences of murder of journalist Gauri Lankesh in Bengaluru on September 05, 2017.

Dates:- September 06, 2017

Sir,
While surfing internet regarding yesterday's murder of journalist Gauri Lankesh in Bengaluru- Karnataka, Legal Rights Observatory team came across news report on site www.scroll.in
The report's title is "Gauri Lankesh remembered: ‘She took majoritarian Hindutva politics head on"  and it is available on the link https://scroll.************************************************
The very first paragraph of the report mentions that,"Gauri Lankesh, senior journalist and activist, was staunchly secular and vocal about it. Lankesh was known to be critical, and stridently so – about Hindutva, Right-Wing forces in the country and also about Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This often got her into trouble and is what, many of her friends and associates suspect, got her killed."
Especially last line of aforesaid paragraph specifically points out at deceased Gauri Lankesh's friends and associates along with Scroll website's reporters who have hints about the people conspiring and actually killing Gauri Lankesh.
With this letter, LRO demands immediate interrogation of Scroll website's reporters to extract the names of "Friends and Associates" of Gauri Lankesh, who could share the names of perpetrators of her murder. LRO believes that immediate and professional investigation of Scroll's sources could quickly crack the case and it would help in reaching to the assassins. If we comes across any such evidences in this regard we would like to share it with NIA.

Thanks,
