Syrian army breaks ISIS siege of key Aleppo air base

According to the spokesman, the terrorists are trying to implement so-called mobile defense tactics, regularly relocating their positions "in an attempt to hide from strikes, by both Syrian government troops and Russian air forces". Since early May, Islamic State has mounted several attempts to overrun the base. Syrian troops have seized a northern village from Islamic State in an advance towards an air base besieged by the extremists for more than a year. Troops had broken the siege of Kuweires military airport, east of the divided city of Aleppo. Speaking to the Tasnim News Agency, ranking military official Ali Maghsoud said, the army is going to raid the Kowaires airbase, near Aleppo, and recapture it from the terrorist groups.

Syrian state TV said two shells hit an area near Tishrin University on Tuesday afternoon. Syria has been entangled in civil war since March 2011. The latest shelling came during an offensive by government forces in the mountains near the city under the cover of Russian airstrikes. Since late September, Russian Federation has been carrying out bombings against the ISIL terrorists in Syria, after Russia's parliament granted President Putin authorization to deploy the country's air force overseas. SANA said the shelling killed one person and wounded five.
